Question 1

When do I see a word again?

Accepted Answer

You rate every card yourself with three buttons. Red brings the word back after about a minute, yellow after about seven minutes, green on the next day and then in growing steps. Each word runs its own schedule per direction, so “Darija → your language” and the way back are counted apart.

Question 2

What is my daily goal?

Accepted Answer

Your daily goal is a number of words, 20 until you change it in the settings. A word counts once you rate it Got it in every direction you practised today, and due words count just like new ones. The same number sets how many new words you meet each day, so tomorrow stays comfortable. Due cards always come through. A learning day starts at 3 in the morning.

Question 3

What is the difference between the 'kilma' mode and Countup?

Accepted Answer

In the 'kilma' mode you reveal the answer yourself and then rate it. In Countup one button walks through Got it, Almost and Not yet while a hint grows; when the time runs out, the clock books a Not yet for you. Mixed alternates between the two in blocks. Pick your mode right above the start button.

Question 4

Can I take a word out of my learning?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap “Hide” during a session and the word leaves your learning for good; it then rests outside both the due and the new pile. Find hidden words again under Vocabulary and bring them back whenever you like.

Question 5

Where do I see all my words?

Accepted Answer

Open “Vocabulary”. Your words stand grouped by category; filter them by list, search them and open the notes of a word. Words with a picture carry a small button that shows it.

Question 6

What is a pack?

Accepted Answer

A pack is a fixed set of words that someone put together for you. Tap it on the learn page and you study exactly those words. Every account has something ready: your own pack if one exists, otherwise the sets that ship with the app.

Question 7

What is the difference between the two language settings?

Accepted Answer

The interface language sets the buttons and menus. The question languages decide which languages you are asked from. You can be asked in German and still use the app in English, because these are two separate settings.

Question 8

How do I change my password?

Accepted Answer

In your profile. Enter your current password, and the new one is checked right there. If you sign in with Google, Google keeps that password for you.

Question 9

Does anyone else see my progress?

Accepted Answer

Your teacher sees what you have practised and which words still need a second look, because the teaching is built on exactly that. An administrator can look into an account, and every such look goes into a log. Your progress stays between you, your teacher and that log.

Question 10

How do I get into my class?

Accepted Answer

Open “Classes” and use the button on your class. The lobby opens ten minutes before the start, so check camera and microphone there in peace. “Join lesson” takes you into the room. The room stays open for a while after the scheduled end and then hangs up by itself.

Question 11

What happens when a class is cancelled?

Accepted Answer

Your teacher can cancel until the class is over, and you can cancel until it starts. A class your teacher cancels always stays free for you. Cancel at least 24 hours before the start and it stays free as well. Closer than that, or for an empty room, the class uses one credit, because your teacher had set the time aside. Whiteboards and screenshots of a cancelled class stay with you; the room itself stays closed.

Question 12

What are class credits?

Accepted Answer

They are the classes you still have. Every class that ran, or that was cancelled too late, uses one. At zero your booked classes still take place, and new ones wait until an administrator tops you up. Learning, vocabulary and homework stay open the whole time. The administrator sets the number, because buying and paying happen outside 'kilma'. TODO(Stefan): how credits are bought and paid for outside the app is left open here, because the app leaves that decision outside.

Question 13

How does homework work?

Accepted Answer

Your teacher assigns words after a class. Practise them with small games: multiple choice, typing, matching. For some words you record yourself, so your teacher can listen. Your first complete run counts as the result, and everything after it is free practice. A due date that has passed leaves everything open.

Question 14

Sound, picture or whiteboard are stuck. What now?

Accepted Answer

Reload the page first, and the call reconnects by itself. Check in the lobby whether the level meter moves when you speak, and whether your browser may use camera and microphone. If only the whiteboard hangs, switch to another document in the bar and back. Still stuck? Write to your teacher in the class chat.

Question 15

Do I get a reminder before my class?

Accepted Answer

'kilma' emails you a reminder up to 24 hours before a class, and your teacher gets one too. You can switch the reminders off in your profile.
